Resolution of Headaches in a 13 Year-Old Following Restoration of Cervical Curvature Utilizing Chiropractic Biophysics: A Case Report

Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health – Chiropractic ~ Volume 2009 ~ Issue 4 ~ Pages 1-7

Objective: To report on the chiropractic care of a patient with upper cervical subluxations, a decreased cervical curve and headaches.

Clinical Features: A 13 year-old male presented with daily cervicogenic headaches for a period of 4 years. Lateral flexion of the cervical spine was limited. There was a loss of the normal cervical curve. Motion palpation revealed hypertonicity at C1 to C3 and T1 to T6, with painful palpation bilaterally from C1 to C7 and from T1 to T8.

Intervention and Outcome: Radiographs and surface electromyography were initially taken in preparation for the development of an appropriate care plan. The patient was cared for using Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) technique to include segmental adjustments, mirror-image adjustments, 2-way traction, and therapeutic exercises. Upon completion of the care plan, post radiographs were taken and a radiological comparative report was generated. Restoration of the cervical curve was achieved while the headaches were eliminated.

Conclusion: The patient presenting with a loss of cervical curve and associated cervicogenic headaches received chiropractic care under the standard protocol of Chiropractic Biophysics technique. Post radiographs demonstrated a restoration of the cervical curve while a complete resolution of the headaches was achieved. Chiropractic Biophysics technique appears in this case to have been effective in the treatment of cervicogenic headache by way of restoring the cervical spine to its proper lordotic configuration. Further research is encouraged.

What does this article say? This article describes a case study in which a 13-year-old boy suffering from chronic, daily headaches is helped with chiropractic care.  After suffering for 4 years experiencing a headache every day, this boy’s headaches were eliminated after undergoing corrective chiropractic care.  Like so many others in this country, this boy was suffering from subluxation, or misaligned vertebrae, in his neck causing nervous system interference.  These misaligned vertebrae were causing this boy’s headaches by interfering with his nervous system.  The headache is the body’s way of warning us that there is a problem somewhere in the body.  More often than not, the problem is a subluxated (misaligned) neck.  Correcting the subluxation and restoring the proper lordotic (c-shape) curve in the neck allows the body to heal and self-regulate.  The body can then turn off the warning signal (the headache).

Who should I pass this on to? Please send this post to anyone who suffers from headaches and who is tired of taking prescription or over-the-counter drugs with limited or no results.  People who suffer from headaches should know that there is a safe, natural way to get well and stay well.

God Bless,

Chiropractic Care: Another Approach for Children with Colds, Allergies & Asthma

December 17, 2009

Children Able to Avoid Drugs and Overcome Chronic Colds, Allergies and Asthma

Chiropractic Care of a Pediatric Patient with Asthma, Allergies, Chronic Colds & Vertebral Subluxation. Joel Alcantara, BSc, D.C. ;  Laura Van Roo, D.C. ; Rosemary E. Oman, MSc, FASBE, D.C.  Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health – Chiropractic.  Summer 2009; Vol. 2009; Issue 3.

Objective: To provide supporting evidence on the effectiveness of chiropractic care in relieving asthma and allergies and overall improvement in a pediatric patient’s immune system and health.

Clinical Features: A 7-year-old male was presented by his parents for chiropractic evaluation and possible care. The suffered from chronic colds, allergies, and asthma since the age of 5 months. At the time of initial evaluation, the patient was on a 1x/day dose of prescription Alavert for allergies and Albuterol for asthma. The patient’s illness caused him to miss approximately 1–2 days a month of school due to colds and symptoms of asthma. His parents also indicated that his health problems resulted in monthly visits to his medical doctor.

Interventions and Outcomes: The patient was cared for using specific, low-force adjustments with the Activator Instrument to address areas of vertebral subluxation in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine. Within two weeks of initiating chiropractic care, the patient was able to discontinue his allergy and asthma medications (as decided upon by his parents) and the use of his nebulizer. In the first 5 months after beginning chiropractic care, he has had only wellness checkups at the medical doctor. In the past school year, the patient has not missed any days of school due to illness.

Conclusion: This case report provides supporting evidence that chiropractic care can help balance immune system functioning and relieve asthma symptoms as well as colds and allergies. It is recommended that further research be done on this subject to support the findings of this case study.

What does this article say? This article describes a case study in which a young boy suffering from chronic immune problems is helped with chiropractic care.  The child suffered for two years with chronic colds, allergies and asthma and was taking daily doses of allergy and asthma medication.  After only two weeks under the care of a chiropractor, this child was able to stop taking the asthma and allergy medication and his health dramatically improved.  The child also improved his attendance in school.

Who should I pass this on to? Please send this article to any parents with children who suffer from chronic colds, allergies, or asthma who are also tired of giving their children prescription drugs.  Show them this and let them understand that this is only one of countless children who are healthier and happier due to chiropractic care.

Re-Charge Your Brain

November 11, 2009

Your brain is a battery, plain and simple.  Your brain controls every single function in your entire body.  When your nervous system is working properly, signals should travel freely from your brain to your body, and more importantly, from your body back up to your brain.

You see, just like any battery, your brain needs to be charged.  Your brain is charged by movement of your body.  Specifically the proper movement of the 24 spinal bones in your vertebral column.

When these bones are not moving properly, this is called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) or Subluxation.  This is a fancy term for vertebrae that are not moving correctly in your spine and are stuck in the wrong position.  When subluxation is present, the signals that normally charge the brain are severely diminished.  The fancy term for this is dysafferentation.  This condition is negatively affecting the health of millions.

Because the brain is so wonderful at adapting (it’s the ultimate super-computer), one may not initially feel the effects of subluxation and dysafferentation.  However, over time, the results are devastating.  Symptoms such as back pain, headaches, neck pain, depression/anxiety, visceral dysfunction, high blood pressure, ADD, ADHD, dizziness, poor balance, weak muscles, etc. will eventually spring up.

Why?  Because the brain is not getting charged.

So, how do you charge your brain?  It’s simple: MOVEMENT.  Get off the couch and move.  Walk the dog.  Do 10 jumping jacks.  Run.  Mow the lawn (with a push mower).  Any type of movement charges the brain.  However, if you want your brain to be super-charged, you need to make sure your spinal vertebrae are moving correctly.  Subluxations do not go away on their own.  Remember, subluxation is the #1 cause of a poorly charged brain.

Only a comprehensive chiropractic evaluation can determine if you have subluxation or not.  Only specific corrective chiropractic adjustments can remove subluxation.  Bottom line:  GET YOUR SPINE CHECKED BY A CHIROPRACTOR.

You only get one brain in life.  Make sure it stays charged.

Swine Flu Protection: Eat Less Sugar

November 3, 2009

Okay, I’m tired of hearing about the swine flu.  The media attention that this supposed “pandemic” is getting is crazy.  My advice:  take a deep breath and educate yourself

Before I even knew about the dangers of vaccines, I was a bit skeptical.  In high school I recieved the seasonal flu vaccine 3 years in a row.  Guess what?  I came down with the flu every year.  The vaccine obviously did not work (or it made me sick) and who knows how many toxins were placed in my body along with those injections.  Needless to say, I gave up on vaccines a long time ago.

One of the big issues that the media is focusing on is the number of deaths or the risk of death from H1N1.  Question #1:  How many deaths have been caused by H1N1 in any given population.  Question #2:  Did those who died with H1N1 have underlying illnesses that compromised their health, leaving them more susceptible to severe complications?

“In Canada as of October 17, 2009 there had been a total of 1,604 hospitalizations, and 83 deaths associated with H1N1.”1

So, in a country with about 35 million people there were 83 deaths.  With simple math we can conclude that up to this point your chance of dying of H1N1 is 0.0002%…not too scary in my book.

“It is not easy to get exact numbers on the number of deaths that are caused by underlying conditions or secondary bacterial infections but estimates are that these would represent 99% of all deaths associated with H1N1.”2

So, if you do not already have some form of bacteria or viral infection, your chances of dying from H1N1 is 1% of 0.0002%.  I can live with those odds.

You have a greater chance of dying in a car accident on your way to get the vaccine than dying from H1N1!

So what if you aren’t worried about dying from H1N1, but you still don’t want to contract it and get sick?  One of the simplest ways to pump up your immune system is to cut back on sugar consumption.

Glucose and vitamin C are almost identical in structure, and they compete with the same receptor sites to enter the cells of your body.  When you eat high amounts of sugar (Halloween candy) most of the receptor sites on your cells are being taken up by blood glucose.

“The phagocytic cells of the immune system require high amounts of Vitamin C to work properly.  A blood sugar value of 120 reduces the phagocytic index 75%.  One saltine cracker will cause the blood sugar to go over 100 and in many people it will cause the blood sugar to go to 150 for a variety of reasons.”3

This is the reason why eating sugar suppresses your immune system and leaves you more susceptible to H1N1.  It is not a lack of vitamin C in your system, rather toxic amounts of sugar in your diet that are blocking the vitamin C from getting to the cells that power your immune system!

Cutting back on sugar consumption, eating more fruits and vegetables, working out regularly and maintaining your spinal health will keep your immune system on point and prepared to fight off any bugs that come your way…even the dreaded swine flu.
